The New Hampshire Advantage 2.0

There has always been a lot of talk about taxes in America, going back to the Boston Tea Party. What if there were a win-win-win situation where the taxpayer, the state, and the business all won, with no new taxes? Representative Mary Murphy is a member of the House Ways & Means and Labor Committee, representing District 27, Deering and Francestown. She has proposed the New Hampshire Advantage 2.0: A Strategic Blueprint for Prosperity.

This is a strategic blueprint designed to grow state revenue and provide property tax relief without resorting to a sales or income tax. Our path to prosperity lies in transforming New Hampshire into a national powerhouse for regulatory excellence and high-margin commerce. Rather than raising tax rates, this strategy seeks to increase the total volume of business tax revenue through three specific initiatives:

1) Make existing New Hampshire companies more profitable by reducing the cost of doing business and expanding access to trading partners for them.

2) Strategic recruitment of “high-margin” industries—such as Life Sciences, Financial Services, Technology, and Advanced Manufacturing—that bring high-paying jobs.

3) Establishing a Chancery Court to compete with Delaware. Texas and Wyoming have done it. New Hampshire can too. This would allow New Hampshire to capture recurring corporate filing fees and legal industry revenue without requiring companies to physically relocate to New Hampshire. This plan intentionally avoids resource-intensive or polluting industries and low-margin businesses that rely on low-income labor.

The Bottom Line: New Hampshire’s current heavy dependence on tourism revenues and property taxes makes our state extremely vulnerable during the next recession. Therefore, it behooves us to fast-forward this strategy before we have a future economic downturn. Please ask your legislator to support the New Hampshire Advantage 2.0.
