Maggie Zavgren of Wilton has been offered a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship Award for the 2026-27 academic year.
Zavgren is one of 10 University of Alabama students selected for Fulbright awards this year. She was chosen to teach English in Germany through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, which promotes academic and cultural exchange in more than 140 countries.
A 2018 graduate of Bard College with a bachelor’s degree in written arts and literature, Zavgren recently graduated from the University of Alabama with a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing and a Master of Arts in German.
For her MFA thesis, Zavgren translated the collected works of Austrian poet Georg Trakl.
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides opportunities for graduating seniors, graduate students and young professionals to study, conduct research or teach English abroad. The program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and is designed to foster mutual understanding between the United States and other countries.
