Caleb Austin Grant

Newburyport, MA – With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Caleb Austin Grant, whose generous spirit and infectious warmth touched countless lives. Caleb left this world a brighter, kinder place on October 22, 2026, following a sudden medical emergency.

If you knew Caleb, you knew two things above all else: his fierce, unwavering love for his children, and his incredible nature as a beacon of hope, humor, and heart who impacted every person he met.

Caleb entered the world on December 21, 1971, in Keene, New Hampshire, proudly holding the distinction of being one of the last babies born at the old Elliot Hospital. He was brought home wrapped inside a giant Christmas stocking-a stocking he cherished and brought out to use every single year for the rest of his life.

Though he later made his home in Newburyport, Massachusetts, Caleb’s roots were deeply planted in Peterborough, New Hampshire, where he grew up. He attended ConVal High School in Peterborough and graduated from Dublin School in Dublin, NH. His extreme enthusiasm for the great outdoors was sparked early in life, spending endless hours fishing-from quiet brook streams to the open ocean-and deer hunting, all taught to him by his mother. Caleb went on to earn his degree in Occupational Health and Safety from Keene State College and worked as a Senior Safety Consultant for Insperity.

Above every accomplishment, the absolute light of Caleb’s life was his children, Cooper and Bowden Grant. They will forever remember their dad for his silly songs, his tender bedtime cuddles when they were little, and his boundless energy spent splashing in the ocean and outlasting them body-surfing in the waves. Caleb left an indelible mark on his children through his deeply sensitive heart and his instinct to help anyone-friend or stranger alike-no matter how small the need. His kindness, generosity, and spirit live on vividly in Cooper and Bow.

To know Caleb was to experience a force of nature. He was truly the biggest personality in the room, complete with a contagious, beaming smile, a trademark twinkle in his eye, and impeccably timed humor. As a proud, active member of the Phi Mu Delta (PMD) fraternity at Keene State, he loved his brothers deeply and remained actively engaged with them throughout his entire life-serving as a true “glue” that brought people together. Caleb lived life unapologetically and to the absolute fullest-he embraced every celebration with boundless energy, possessed a sharp, mischief-filled sense of humor, and was always a bit of a fun troublemaker, but he carried a heart of gold behind all the antics and endless laughs. He was a beautiful soul who never lost touch, constantly reaching out to check on his friends and holding his inner circle close.

Caleb was predeceased by his beloved father, C. James “Jim” Grant, and his brother, Nathan H. “Nate” Grant, both of Peterborough.

He is survived by his devoted mother, Lillian (Bull) Grant of Peterborough, NH; his cherished children, Cooper A. Grant and Bowden M. Grant of Newburyport, MA; along with many dear aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, lifelong friends, and fraternity brothers.

As his friends and loved ones reflect on one of the biggest lives they ever crossed paths with, they take comfort in imagining him reunited with his brother Nate at the ultimate after-party-holding a cold beverage, swapping legendary stories, and sharing a good laugh together.

Donations may be made to Peterborough Fire & Rescue 16 Summer Street, Peterborough, NH 03458.

A celebration of Caleb’s life will be held at the Monadnock Country Club, 49 High St, Peterborough, NH 03458, on Saturday, November 21st, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
