Monadnock Ledger-Transcript reporters earned four New Hampshire Press Association awards this year, with staff members recognized across environmental, education, sports and general excellence categories.
The awards were presented at the New Hampshire Press Association’s annual banquet on June 25.
Reporter Jesseca Timmons took first place in environmental reporting in the small news organization category for her coverage of the Monadnock Conservancy headquarters, which was constructed in days using eco-friendly materials. Timmons also earned second place in sports writing for her profile of 11-year-old Jack Ensell of Wilton, who claimed the New Hampshire karting championship.
Reporter Ashley Saari won first place in education reporting for her “Seeking Solutions in Education” series and placed third in environmental reporting for her work monitoring the health of area lakes.
Reporter Charlotte Matherly earned second place in government reporting for “Party Punishment,” where legislators from both parties in the New Hampshire House say party leadership has punished them โ through committee removals or reassignments โ for voting their conscience instead of following the party line.
The Ledger-Transcript staff again received recognition for general excellence, earning third place in the small news organization category.
“It’s really rewarding to be recognized by our peers. We have a great team, and everyone works hard to give our readers stories that connect the region each week. I’m proud of the staff and the good work everyone does,” said Heather McKernan, Ledger-Transcript publisher.
