Educators from the Mariposa Museum in Peterborough visited the Mason Elementary School on Tuesday, as part of the Mason Public Library’s Summer Reading Program.

Eugenia Villanueva of the Mariposa showed children the creative ways different cultures repurposed food and plants into art.

As part of a hands-on craft, children got to make “potato people” using paper, feathers, pipe cleaners, jewels and other crafting supplies to decorate spuds.

Villanueva also stopped by the Peterborough Town Library on Tuesday for a similar program.

Also ongoing at the library is the Library Historical Scavenger Hunt to celebrate the history of Mason. Stop in at the library to pick up a list of clues and a passbook, and some maps to help explore the area. Everything needed to participate in the hunt is available in the library entryway.

The remaining Summer Reading Program will be held on July 21 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Amy Conley will provide music to move your body to. Kids of all ages are welcome to the Mason Summer Reading Program. This is a free event. All Summer Reading programs are held either in the Mason Public Library or the Mason Elementary School.
