The New Hampshire Master Chorale will present “Song of Democracy,” a program marking the nation’s 250th birthday and the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, on Saturday, June 20, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Concord and Sunday, June 21, at 4 p.m. at Plymouth Congregational Church.
Directed by Dan Perkins, the concerts feature Howard Hanson’s “Song of Democracy,” based on Walt Whitman poems, along with Frank Ticheli’s “Earth Song,” Randall Thompson’s “Alleluia,” Irving Berlin’s “Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor,” and Mari Esabel Valverde’s “When Thunder Comes.” Organist Rob St. Cyr will perform Charles Ives’ “Variations on ‘America.’”
The second half of the program commemorates the 25th anniversary of 9/11 with songs recounting the response of residents of Gander, Newfoundland, who assisted thousands of stranded airline passengers after U.S. airspace closed.
