Jaffrey, NH – Martha Wastcoat Lloyd Gilroy passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on April 28th 2026. She was born on January 11, 1947 in Quincy, MA to Josephine E. Lloyd and Clinton P. Lloyd. She was raised in Candia, NH and graduated from Manchester Memorial High School. After high school she attended and graduated from Chandler School for Women in Boston. She earned a nursing degree from the University of NH and a Master's in Nursing from Rivier College. Martha spent most of her 47 year career as a registered nurse at Burbank Hospital in Fitchburg, MA circulating through various departments. After earning her APRN license she worked as a geriatric nurse practitioner for Cheshire Medical Center in area nursing facilities. Martha originally settled in Rindge where she raised her family, before buying property and building a home for herself in Jaffrey. She became a staple in the Jaffrey community by joining charitable and social clubs. She was a long time member of the Thorndike Club where she kept her beloved Sunfish sailboat and played tennis with the ladies. She also swung her racquet at the Monadnock Tennis Club for a while. She enjoyed golf in Mt. Monadnock's shadow and in the Florida sun each year. When at home she was planning or managing a project, inside or out in the garden. Martha was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Jaffrey VIS, the Jaffrey Historical Society, and a former member of Shelter from the Storm. Martha was known for her commitment to her family and close friends. She enjoyed hosting at her home and attending local arts and entertainment events. She always had a busy social calendar. Martha was determined to maintain all of her activities despite her illnesses. She fought hard to stay healthy and enjoy the life she created. Martha is survived by her sister, Jeanne McCowen of The Woodlands, TX; daughter, Alison Gilroy of Sarasota, FL; daughter Kara-Ann Kuffel and son-in-law Nicholas Kuffel of Newmarket, NH; and grandson, Andrew Marro of Venice, FL; nieces Alix Neeley, Victoria Callandar and Stephanie Lloyd. Martha was predeceased by her brother, John Lloyd.
Please join us for a celebration of life in her honor at First Church in Jaffrey on Saturday May 23, 2026 at 11:30 am followed by a reception at her home.
