A 33-year-old New Ipswich man was seriously injured in a snowmobile crash Friday night on a trail near Cleveland Hill Road in Brookline, according to New Hampshire Fish and Game officials.
Just after 8 p.m. on Feb. 27, 2026, conservation officers were notified by New Hampshire State Police dispatch of the crash. Responding agencies included the Brookline Police Department, Brookline Fire Department, Brookline Ambulance Service and a Fish and Game conservation officer.
Authorities said Erik Hurtibise was riding with a group of friends on a maintained trail system when he encountered a large rock on the right side of the trail while traveling downhill on a left-hand curve. In attempting to avoid the rock, Hurtibise turned sharply to the left and was thrown from the snowmobile.
A member of the group called 911 and remained at the scene until first responders arrived.
Hurtibise was transported by ambulance to St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The snowmobile sustained minor damage.
Officials said alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors. The crash was attributed to operator inexperience and failure to effectively avoid an unexpected object in the trail.
Fish and Game officials reminded off-highway recreational vehicle operators to use caution while riding on New Hampshire trails.
