Are your electric and heating bills too high? If you want to reduce those expenses, then come to the Community Conversation about the causes of and cures for high energy bills, in Bass Hall at the Monadnock Center for History and Culture on Thursday, Feb. 26, from 7 to 8 p.m.

Three five-minute talks will start the conversation.

Bruce Tucker, member of the board of directors of the Community Power Coalition of New Hampshire and the Peterborough Community Power Committee, will explain why our electricity prices fluctuate and will offer steps we can take to reverse their upward trend.

Greg Blake of South Pack Solar will discuss a locally organized Community Solar concept that reduces electricity costs.

Steve Walker, founder, president, and CEO of Evari, a local company developing advanced heat pump technology, will explain how more efficient heat pumps are changing home energy systems, shaping the electrical grid and allowing us to reduce energy costs.

During the ensuing question, answer and discussion period, additional details about cost-reduction measures will be provided. I predict some promising community-based approaches to lowering energy costs will be proposed. To hear all the details, come to Bass Hall, 19 Grove St. in Peterborough.

Peterborough resident Joel Huberman is co-chair of the Peterborough Community Power Committee.
