A 15-year-old Wilton resident suffered minor injuries in an ATV crash on private property Thursday afternoon, according to New Hampshire Fish and Game.

Emergency responders were called to the scene shortly after 4 p.m. June 11. Members of the Lyndeborough and Wilton fire departments, Wilton Ambulance Service, Lyndeborough Police Department and a New Hampshire Fish and Game conservation officer responded.

Investigators determined the teen was operating an ATV for the first time when he lost control on a curved section of a driveway and struck a large rock. The ATV flipped and rolled down an embankment, while the operator jumped clear before the vehicle overturned.

The teen landed on the driveway and sustained minor injuries. A family member called 911 and remained with him until emergency personnel arrived.

The operator was transported by Wilton Ambulance to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Fish and Game officials said unreasonable speed and operator inexperience appear to have been the primary causes of the crash and reminded riders to operate off-highway recreational vehicles safely.
