Why all the lies?
Letter to the Editor: I have always wondered why Trump insists on lying about things that he knows to be false. For instance, that the 2020 election was stolen, the attack on the Capitol was a peaceful demonstration and the circumstances surrounding the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti.
I came across a quote by George Orwell that seems to shed some light on all of the lies.
George Orwell said, โ The best way to kill people is to deny and destroy their own understanding of the past.โ The line sums up a lot of the fear that runs through Orwellโs works: that being able to control the past is the most powerful thing that you can do.
The party in “1984” keeps changing historical records so that there is no objective truth. People can’t question authority when they can’t trust their memories or records (Georgia ballots?) anymore. Those in power can make history whatever they want it to be.
Trumpโs constant lying about everything makes some sense to me now. At least I can understand that there is an ulterior motive behind it. If you keep casting doubt on the facts, people who are not paying attention will not know the difference between fact and fiction.
So, the long-term plan appears to be to sow doubt about everything into the minds of the American public and cause us to question the truth and leave it to the government to tell us what is right and wrong.
George Orwell was a very astute and intelligent individual.
My observation about “1984” is that his prediction about government control was spot on, but his calculations of when it would occur were premature by 42 years.
