Good news, bad news
Tuesday, Jan. 20’s paper was full of news. It was great to hear about Catholic Charities’ opening of their long-needed affordable housing project.
I was not alone in wondering about the closure of 12 Pine and the purchase of several buildings in Town. All good news, with one caveat: Is it a conflict of interest when the lawyer representing the town, who is also listed as legal counsel for the Blue Finch group, who obviously will have lots of dealings with the town government as they move forward with their projects?
Two other stories caught my attention and frankly froze me in my tracks. The story about Kristen Noble, Republican chair of the House Education Committee, calling for “political segregation” in our schools was frightening. Political vitriol has become mainstream since this administration took office a year ago. This is yet another brazen attempt to destroy our communities and democracy. Shame!
The second story that should have horrified everyone was titled “Lawmaker Considers Letting Students Arm Themselves.” Did we not just watch Brown University’s recent tragedy? We need fewer guns in our daily lives, not more. Arming students will not make them safer, as several students who testified pointed out. It’s time to take care of our own.
Protesting on the corner of Routes 101 and 202 isn’t enough. We need to march on Washington and vote (if the elections happen) to end this insanity.
