The Peterborough Town Library is celebrating the 250th birthday of author Jane Austen with a series of programs throughout December. All events are free, open to the public, and require no registration.
The series begins with โJane Austen on Page and On Screenโ on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 6 p.m. Barry Deitz, director of the Conant Public Library in Winchester, will discuss film adaptations of Austenโs novels from the 1940s to the present and how her stories continue to resonate with readers and viewers.
On Friday, Dec. 12 at 6 p.m., the library will host a screening of a popular film adaptation marking its 20th anniversary. Attendees are welcome to dress in Regency-era attire. Birthday cake and refreshments will be served. Details are available on the libraryโs website.
The libraryโs book clubs will read and discuss “Persuasion,” Austenโs final completed novel. Books & Banter meets Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 5:30 p.m., and the Literary Book Club meets Friday, Dec. 19 at 11 a.m. Copies of the book are available at the Help Desk.
