The George Holmes Bixby Memorial Library will host science fiction author James Kelly for a program on artificial intelligence on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 6 p.m. in Francestown Town Hall. Kelly will present “Welcome Our Robot Overlords! Living with AI,” a talk that examines how AI has been portrayed in fiction and how those depictions shape public understanding.

Kelly will review the history of AI in both real-world development and science fiction, discuss the technology’s rapid growth and its potential impact and focus on practical steps individuals can take to protect privacy and maintain economic security as AI becomes more integrated into daily life.

Kelly is a science fiction writer with seven novels and 150 published stories. His work has received the World Science Fiction Society’s Hugo Award twice and the Science Fiction Writers of America’s Nebula Award and has been translated into 18 languages. He writes a regular column for Asimov’s Science Fiction Magazine on science fiction, technology and culture.

The program is supported by a grant from New Hampshire Humanities.
