A Rindge resident and his dog escaped safely early Saturday morning after a fire destroyed a home at 34 Monadnock View Road.
The Rindge Fire Department responded to multiple 911 calls beginning at 1:26 a.m. Firefighters arrived at 1:35 a.m. to find the entire residence fully engulfed in flames and heavy smoke. Because of the blaze’s intensity, crews took a defensive exterior stance and did not enter the structure, according to a department release.
Crews initially struggled to establish a water supply, prompting requests for three additional fire tankers before securing a source on Route 119. More than a dozen departments from New Hampshire and Massachusetts provided mutual aid at the scene, while an engine crew from Ashby, Mass., covered the Rindge fire station.
Occupant Keith Woolford and his dog, Buddy, evacuated without injury, but the house is considered a total loss. Eversource secured utilities at the property, and the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s office is helping Rindge officials investigate the cause.
