The Antrim Police Department responded to a serious crash on Depot Street on Nov. 15 after callers reported a vehicle that struck a fire hydrant. Officers arrived at about 6:02 p.m. and found a red 2007 Ford Fusion off the roadway with significant damage and a major water leak. Police identified the driver as Christopher Lachance, 37, of Bennington, who officers said showed signs of impairment. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Antrim Ambulance evaluated Lachance at the scene and began transporting him to Monadnock Community Hospital for further treatment. Police said that while the ambulance was moving on Water Street, Lachance exited the vehicle and ran into a wooded area. Officers launched an immediate search and requested assistance from the Hillsborough Police Departmentโ€™s K9 unit.

At about 7:08 p.m., Hillsborough Police Sgt. Hodgen and K9 Voight located Lachance on North Bennington Road near Bible Hill Road. After being taken into custody, police said Lachance assaulted an officer while being prepared for transport.

Lachance is charged with second-offense DUI, two counts of resisting arrest or detention, simple assault and theft. He was held on preventive detention pending arraignment in the 6th Circuit Hillsboro District Court in Hillsborough on Nov. 17 at 2 p.m.

Antrim Police were assisted by Antrim Fire and Ambulance and the Hillsborough Police Department.
