“Thought Cage,” a sculpture by Vermont artist Chris Curtis, was unveiled Sunday, Oct. 26, at Ashuelot River Park, marking a milestone in a multi-year effort to launch a Monadnock Sculpture Trail from Peterborough to Walpole.
The project’s originator, Rick MacMillan of Dublin, has pursued the idea for three years after visiting sculpture walks and parks in Meredith and Brookline; New Windsor, N.Y.; Tucson, Ariz.; Lincoln, Mass.; and Washington, D.C. An earlier attempt to site a work in Peterborough fell through when the artist withdrew, despite funds raised by the Grand Monadnock Rotary Club to transport and install the piece from Brooklyn, N.Y.
Keene Mayor Jay Kahn, several Keene city councilors, Friends of Public Art founder Georgia Cassimatis, and other arts supporters joined Curtis for the ribbon-cutting at Ashuelot River Park.
