Veterans Day ceremonies and parades on Nov. 11.

FRANCESTOWN

The town will commemorate Veterans Day on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. A community parade will step off from the Town Hall horse sheds, with participants asked to assemble at 10:30 a.m. Veterans are encouraged to wear uniforms if available.

The parade will proceed to Memorial Park for a ceremony including the Pledge of Allegiance, a chaplain’s prayer, laying of a wreath, a rifle salute and taps.

Following the ceremony, all are invited to a community luncheon at Town Hall sponsored by the Francestown Elementary School PTO. A handsewn quilt will be raffled.

JAFFREY

John Humiston Post 11 of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5613, and the Town of Jaffrey invite residents and neighboring communities to participate in the annual Veterans Day observance on Tuesday, Nov. 11.

Parking will be available at Community Field, where restroom facilities will also be open. Veterans will assemble for the parade on Blake Street at 10:15 a.m., with step-off scheduled for 10:40 a.m. The parade will proceed to the Town Common, where a prayer will be offered, a wreath will be laid, and an address delivered by VFW Post 5613 Commander Dale Smith. The National Anthem will also be played as part of the ceremony.

Veterans Day, first celebrated as Armistice Day, marks the end of World War I at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. Today, it honors all U.S. military veterans, past and present. All veterans and active service members are encouraged to march in the parade.

Following the ceremony, light refreshments will be served at the American Legion on Webster Street. At noon, The Park Theatre will offer complimentary pizza for veterans and active military personnel, followed by a free screening of the 1968 war film “Where Eagles Dare.” The movie will be shown at 12:30 p.m. and again at 6:30 p.m.

LYNDEBOROUGH

The Lafayette Artillery Company will host the town’s Veterans Day Observance on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 11:11 a.m. at Center Hall, 1131 Center Road.

The ceremony will begin with a brief presentation honoring all who have served. Following the presentation, the Lafayette Artillery will fire its antique six-pound cannon with the assistance of three veterans.

After the observance, refreshments will be served inside Center Hall.

The Lafayette Artillery Company invites all veterans, families, friends, and residents to attend and take part in this annual tradition of remembrance and community appreciation.

PETERBOROUGH

Veterans, their guests, and members of the public are invited to participate in Peterborough’s annual Veterans Day ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 11.

The day will begin with a Remembrance Day Service at 9 a.m. at All Saints Church, 51 Concord St., led by the Rev. Dr. Jennifer Walters. Participants will include veterans from all service branches, the United States Naval Sea Cadets of the Monadnock Squadron, the American Heritage Girls, and community members. The “Last Roll Call” will honor local deceased veterans. Coffee and donuts will be served in the Parish Hall following the service, hosted by the American Legion Post 5 Auxiliary.

At 10:30 a.m., the Veterans Day parade will assemble on Main Street at Veterans Way before proceeding to the Sea Service at the library bridge. The service will feature veterans, Sea Cadets, the South Meadow School Band directed by Ed Lowy, the Sixth New Hampshire Civil War Reenactors, Boy Scout Troop 8, the American Heritage Girls, and the Peterborough Police and Fire departments.

At 10:45 a.m., the parade will continue to the Peterborough Town House for the main ceremony. Speakers will include Lauren Martin and John Franklin. The South Meadow School Band will perform patriotic songs, the American Heritage Girls will sing, and Boy Scout Troop 8 will raise the flag.

The program will conclude at approximately 11:11 a.m.

RINDGE

Cathedral of the Pines will host a Veterans Day ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 11, from 10:45 a.m. to noon in the Hilltop House.

The event will feature guest speaker Capt. Lynne Blankenbecker, U.S. Naval Reserve and New Hampshire state representative. The ceremony will include a full color guard, gun salute, and the playing of taps by the Rindge Veterans Association. Readings will include Abraham Lincoln’s “Letter to Mrs. Bixby” and “In Flanders Fields,” presented by Trustee Emeritus Don Upton.

Refreshments will be served following the service.

Cathedral of the Pines, located at 10 Hale Hill Road in Rindge, honors all who have served and sacrificed in defense of the nation. The public is invited to attend this annual observance.
