Volunteers from the Peterborough Lions Club conducted free vision screenings for 115 students at Peterborough Elementary School on Friday, Oct. 24, through the clubโ€™s Operation KidSight program.

With coordination from school nurse Merissa Doubleday, the screenings were performed using a noninvasive handheld device to detect potential vision issues such as nearsightedness, farsightedness and lazy eye. The goal of the program is early detection, allowing parents to seek follow-up professional care if needed. About 10% of students screened were referred for further evaluation.

The Lions will also offer free eye screenings at the Monadnock Railroad Club Train Show on Saturday, Nov. 8, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Peterborough Community Center.

For schools, daycares, or organizations interested in scheduling a free screening, contact Kidsight Coordinator Christine Lavery at 603-547-5944 or Lions President Linda Guyette at 603-547-7737.
