Volunteers from the Peterborough Lions Club conducted free vision screenings for 115 students at Peterborough Elementary School on Friday, Oct. 24, through the clubโs Operation KidSight program.
With coordination from school nurse Merissa Doubleday, the screenings were performed using a noninvasive handheld device to detect potential vision issues such as nearsightedness, farsightedness and lazy eye. The goal of the program is early detection, allowing parents to seek follow-up professional care if needed. About 10% of students screened were referred for further evaluation.
The Lions will also offer free eye screenings at the Monadnock Railroad Club Train Show on Saturday, Nov. 8, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Peterborough Community Center.
For schools, daycares, or organizations interested in scheduling a free screening, contact Kidsight Coordinator Christine Lavery at 603-547-5944 or Lions President Linda Guyette at 603-547-7737.
