Democracy is working as designed

Despite all the noise and protests accusing President Trump of acting like an autocrat or even a king, our democratic system is functioning exactly as it should. The President was elected decisively, and he is carrying out the very policies he campaigned onโ€”openly, transparently, and within the constitutional powers of his office.

When critics claim he has overstepped his authority, the courts are there to judge those claims. And they have. Time and again, when his executive actions have been challenged, the cases have gone through proper judicial review, and the Supreme Court has repeatedly affirmed the legality of his actions. Thatโ€™s not authoritarianismโ€”itโ€™s constitutional governance in action.

Protesters certainly have the right to express opposition. Thatโ€™s part of what keeps democracy healthy. But to call a lawfully elected president a โ€œfascistโ€ or โ€œkingโ€ when every branch of government continues to function as intended is simply false and divisive.

Elections have consequences. The Presidentโ€™s opponents lost at the ballot box, not through any constitutional failure, but through the will of the voters. Weโ€™d all be better served by recognizing that political disagreement does not equal tyranny. Ours is a representative government, built to resolve differences through debate and legislationโ€”not intimidation or mob tactics. If Democrat leaders encouraged real dialogue instead of fueling outrage, both their party and the nation would be stronger for it.
