The Monadnock Conservancy has finalized the donation of two woodlots in Fitzwilliam totaling 105 acres, gifted by Anne Twitchell, 94, of Peterborough. The donation ensures that the properties will remain undeveloped and protected as managed forests.

The first parcel, 84 acres southeast of Laurel Lake, includes a stream, wetlands, and key wildlife habitats recognized in the Fitzwilliam Open Space Plan. The second, a 21-acre property, contains two streams and lies within an important zone for the townโ€™s water supply. Both areas provide valuable conservation and habitat benefits.

Twitchell said she was pleased that the Conservancy would continue the sustainable forestry practices started by longtime forester David Kent. Land Protection Director Anne McBride expressed gratitude for Twitchellโ€™s gift, noting the land had been in her family for over a century.

The Monadnock Conservancy will now own and manage the properties to maintain their ecological and educational value.
