Keene Pride, in partnership with Keene State College, will host an exhibit of nine panels from the National AIDS Memorial Quilt at Carroll House, 238 Main St., from Oct. 6โ11. The display will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is free to the public.
The exhibition is timed to coincide with National Coming Out Day on Oct. 11, offering the Monadnock Region an opportunity to reflect on the history of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, honor lives lost and celebrate resilience in the LGBTQ+ community.
First displayed in 1987 on the National Mall, the quilt has grown into the largest community art installation in the world, with nearly 50,000 panels commemorating more than 110,000 individuals.
โThis quilt is more than fabric and thread โ it is a living memorial,โ said Keene Pride Board President Adam Toepfer. โWe are humbled to bring this historic and deeply meaningful work to Keene, and we invite all members of the community to experience its impact firsthand.โ
The event is made possible with support from C&S Wholesale Grocers, Revo Casino, the City of Keene, Fenton Family Dealerships, Monadnock Radio Group, Savings Bank of Walpole, The Putnam Foundation and the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation.
