The October edition of MacDowell Downtown will feature artist and creative coder Brent Watanabe on Friday, Oct. 3, at 7:30 p.m. at the Peterborough Town Libraryโs 1833 Room, 2 Concord St.
Watanabe will present “Code & Canvas: Reimaging Art in the Digital Age,” a program that highlights his work combining traditional art forms such as drawing and sculpture with new technologies, including video game engines and servo-control systems. He will preview a forthcoming site-specific museum installation and offer a behind-the-scenes look at the work he is developing during his MacDowell residency.
Based in Seattle, Watanabe is a four-time MacDowell Fellow whose work explores the intersection of the physical and digital and redefines what it means to make art in the 21st century.
MacDowell Downtown is a free monthly series that runs March through November and features MacDowell Fellows across disciplines. The programs, which range from readings to film screenings and artist talks, provide opportunities for the public to connect directly with resident artists.
The Oct. 3 program is free and open to the public. Seating is limited. For information, email events@macdowell.org.
