All seasonal burn permits are suspended as a statewide burn ban goes into effect Monday, Sept. 22, following a proclamation by the governor.
The ban prohibits all open burning, including campfires and brush fires, due to severe drought conditions and elevated wildfire risk across New Hampshire. Officials noted that wildfire indexes are high, and the potential for large fire activity exists.
The proclamation bans smoking in or near woodlands or on public trails and open burning of any kind.
The order does not restrict the use of propane or liquid-fueled grills or camping stoves.
Residents are urged to comply with the ban and take precautions to prevent accidental fires. For questions about local permitting, contact your town fire department.
