The Keene Cheshiremen Chorus is inviting men of all ages to discover the joy of barbershop harmony, a four-part a cappella style known for its ringing chords and vibrant sound.
In barbershop singing, the lead carries the melody, the tenor harmonizes above, the bass anchors the low notes, and the baritone fills in the chord. Together, the voices create a distinctive sound that is both fun to sing and hear.
The Cheshiremen describe themselves as โa gathering of men with a singing problem โ who love to harmonize and ring chords โ and have lots of fun while doing so.โ
The group is rehearsing for the holiday season and their upcoming show on Dec. 20. Rehearsals are held Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. at the United Church of Christ, 23 Central Square in Keene (enter from Vernon Street). Newcomers are welcome and no experience is needed. The chorus provides music, learning tools and encouragement.
