Jaffrey Community Power has set new electricity supply rates for its participants, effective in November and fixed for the next 36 months.

While Eversource resets its rate every six months, community power models allow communities to negotiate longer-term contracts and use the buying power of wide customer bases to negotiate prices.

Jaffrey Town Manager Jon Frederick said that Jaffrey Community Power, launched in 2023, has had rates comparable to Eversource’s default rate.

He said one of the benefits of the program is knowing what your electricity bill is going to be for the next three years, without big dips and rises.

“I’ve been in the program myself as a customer, and I’ve been happy because we haven’t seen those big fluctuations in my bill,” Frederick said. “We’re doing this to be able to provide that stability for customers.”

He said over the three-year term of the contract Jaffrey Community Power has secured, Eversource will change its rate a total of six times.

The new Jaffrey default rate, which participants are automatically enrolled in unless otherwise specified, is 11.7 cents per kilowatt hour. The basic tier, the lowest-cost option that includes only the state-required minimum of power produced by renewable sources, will be 11.33 cents per kilowatt hour.

These prices are slightly higher than the current Jaffrey Community Power rates of 10.968 cents per kilowatt hour for the default and 10.568 for the basic rate.

Jaffrey also offers tiers with additional amounts of renewable energy. The option for 50% renewables is 12.25 cents per kilowatt hour and for 100% renewables is 14.12 cents per kilowatt hour.

Eversource’s current default rate, set through Jan. 26, is 11.196 cents per kilowatt hour.

Participants will remain in their chosen tier (basic, default, 50% or 100%) unless they select a different option, which they may do at any time.

Participation in the Jaffrey community power program is voluntary. Participants can opt out anytime to return to Eversource or another supplier.

Eversource will continue delivering electricity and responding to outages.
