A Peterborough man died after a golf cart rollover at Extra Space Storage, 736 Route 12 in Marlborough on Thursday, Sept. 4.

Marlborough police and fire departments were dispatched at 11:58 a.m. after an employee of a nearby motel reported the crash. Crews arrived to find the operator pinned beneath the cart. Police extricated him and attempted lifesaving measures.

The operator, identified as Iain K. Walton, 62, of Peterborough, was taken to Cheshire Medical Center in Keene, where he was pronounced dead.

Based on the on-scene investigation, police said Walton, an employee of Extra Space Storage, had been working alone and attempting a three-point turn when the cart rolled backward in neutral over a steep embankment. The cart was equipped with seatbelts, but they were not in use.

Authorities said no criminal charges are expected.
