A Concord, Mass., woman was assisted off the Wapack Trail at Miller State Park in Peterborough on Sunday, Aug. 31, after falling ill during a hike, according to New Hampshire Fish and Game.

Chrystel Pit, 48, was hiking with her husband at about 2:45 p.m. when she became sick and was unable to continue. New Hampshire State Police Dispatch notified Fish and Game, which coordinated the response.

Members of the Peterborough, Jaffrey and Temple fire departments, along with a Fish and Game conservation officer, located Pit about 100 yards from the Auto Road. Because of the steep and rocky terrain, additional personnel were called to assist.

After receiving fluids and evaluation from Peterborough medical personnel, Pit was able to walk with help back to the Auto Road. She was transported to Monadnock Community Hospital by Peterborough Ambulance for further treatment.

Fish and Game encourages hikers to purchase a Hike Safe card, which supports the stateโ€™s search and rescue efforts. For information about safe hiking and essential gear, visit www.hikesafe.com or www.wildnh.com/safe.
