Composer, pianist and writer Pamela Madsen will present โ€œIn America: Modjeska!โ€ on Friday, Sept. 5, at 7:30 p.m. at the Monadnock Center for History and Culture.

Madsen will share excerpts from her new concerto-aria inspired by Helena Modjeska, a Polish immigrant and Shakespearean actress whose career paralleled that of Edward and Marian MacDowell. Her work blends archival research with music and storytelling, exploring themes of immigration, legacy and home.

The program will also include selections from her song cycle โ€œTesknotaโ€ (โ€œLongingโ€) and piano interludes inspired by MacDowellโ€™s โ€œWoodland Sketches.โ€

Madsen, in Peterborough for her second fellowship, is known for highlighting the work of women artists through music. The evening will combine narrative, recordings and live piano performance, offering insight into her creative process.

The event is free and open to all, with advance registration encouraged.
