Alan Rumrill will open the 78th annual Amos Fortune Forum summer speaker series with “Monadnock Originals: Colorful Characters from New Hampshire’s Quiet Corner” on Friday, July 11 at 8 p.m. at the Meetinghouse, Jaffrey Center, Jaffrey.

Rumrill, senior historian and former executive director of the Historical Society of Cheshire County, will share stories of fame, scandal and unique figures — including Mark Twain and Amelia Earhart — who shaped the region’s identity.

A native and lifelong resident of Stoddard, Rumrill’s family has lived there since 1770. He has written 10 books and produced more than 1,500 articles and radio programs on local history.

The event is free and open to the public. A recording will be posted on YouTube after the presentation. Program information is available at amosfortune.org.

The Amos Fortune Forum has hosted more than 500 presentations since 1946, offering talks on topics of public interest by local and regional speakers at the Meetinghouse each summer. No registration is required.
