On June 24, multiple fire departments responded to a reported propane leak from a 1,000-gallon tank at Pilgrim Foods in Greenville.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., Greenville Fire Department was dispatched for the reported leak on Old Wilton Road. Due to the intense heat of the day, an initial request for tankers was upgraded to a full first alarm for addition to tankers. The cause of the leak is believed to be due to the volume of propane in the tank, which expanded because of the high temperatures, causing the tank pressure to rise and release the tank safety relief valve.

Toward the end of the call, when the first tank was under control, the crews on scene were alerted to a 500-gallon tank on the opposite side of the building which was also releasing propane. Crews moved to deal with this second tank, which was quickly resolved. All crews were clear of the scene at approximately 5 p.m.

Greenville was assisted by New Ipswich Fire Department, Mason Fire/EMS Department, Wilton Fire Department, Ashby Fire and EMS, Peterborough Fire and Rescue, Lyndeborough Fire Department, Temple Volunteer Fire Department, Jaffrey Fire Department, Brookline Fire Department, Souhegan Valley Ambulance, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and Hollis, Brookline and Mason Emergency Dispatch.
