Many today at risk of losing their Social Security benefits will remember the Charlie McCarthy/Edgar Bergen show and relate to its parallel performance in today’s White House. The only problem is distinguishing who is speaking and who is the dummy.

Since the authority of what is said by the foreign-born American dummy comes from the ventriloquist, who like the Wizard of Oz, has the power to pull important levels of control. Much of what the dummy says is being implemented through the authority given by the ventriloquist/Wizard/president. My fear is that more than Social Security is at risk. Charlie McCarthy has made prominent appearances during high-level government meetings, the State of the Union address and pep rallies demonstrating his skills at chainsawing away government waste.

But don’t be deceived by Charlie; he is only the voice of policies the ventriloquist wants to implement. They are friends who share a common desire for the acquisition of power and money, rather than serving the common good. I wish Charlie would have chosen to be more like Pinocchio.
