The 1927 silent drama “Underworld” will be shown with live music on Sunday, March 9, at 2 p.m. at the Town Hall Theatre, 40 Main St., Wilton. Admission is free, with a suggested donation of $10 per person.

Directed by Josef von Sternberg, “Underworld” stars George Bancroft as Bull Weed, a gangster who takes in a reformed drunkard, “Rolls Royce” (Clive Brook), as his right-hand man. A love triangle develops with Bull’s girlfriend, “Feathers” (Evelyn Brent), leading to a dramatic climax. The film, considered the first to portray a gangster as a sympathetic figure, helped launch Hollywood’s Prohibition-era crime genre.

The screening will feature live accompaniment by silent film musician Jeff Rapsis, who improvises scores using a digital synthesizer. For information, call 603-654-3456..
