Three people were injured in a crash in Rindge Friday night.

According to a release from the Rindge Fire Department, the department was dispatched at 11:09 p.m. to the area of Forristall Road and the Winchendon town line for a single-vehicle rollover with three patients reportedly injured.

Because of the location of the accident, a paramedic ambulance from Winchendon Fire Department was the first to arrive and located three patients lying in the roadway with serious injuries. The SUV they were riding in had rolled over and struck a tree and received significant damage.

The SUV was unstable and located immediately adjacent to the patients. The road was shut down after Rindge Fire Department officers arrived, after which the SUV was stabilized and efforts turned towards patient care.

Two medical helicopters were called. Additional ambulances from Peterborough Ambulance and Fitzwilliam-Troy Ambulance were also dispatched. No helicopters were available, so all three patients were transported by ambulance to the closest Level I trauma center in Worcester, Mass. Both Winchendon and Peterborough ambulances transported from the scene at the paramedic level. Fitzwilliam-Troy Ambulance received a paramedic intercept from the Ashburnham Fire Department while en route to the hospital.

Rindge Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Rindge and Winchendon police departments as well as several bystanders. The vehicle was towed from the scene by Gauthier’s Auto Service and the roadway was reopened around 12:30 a.m.
