First Church in Jaffrey’s 107th summer fair takes place Wednesday, Aug. 7, from 1 to 4 p.m.
Admission is free, and parking will be available. Places to sit, eat and chat will be scattered around the Jaffrey Center Common and First Church buildings. Picnic lunches with homemade sandwiches, fruit, cookies, chips and a drink will be available at 12:30 in the Parish House. A snack bar located on the corner of the Meetinghouse offers hot dogs, sodas, water, popcorn and free watermelon beginning at 12:30.
Anyone needing a rest from shopping can hear live performances in the Music Tent throughout the afternoon,
The venues include antiques and collectibles in the Meetinghouse, along with “white elephants.” The jewelry tables will include vintage pieces, craft silver earrings, watches and necklaces. Displays of vintage and decorative linens will be near the Meetinghouse. The garden center beneath the trees on the common features plants, tools and decorations for outdoor spaces. A select collection of furniture will be for sale nearby.
The art displayed in the church sanctuary showcases watercolor and oil paintings, prints and photographs. The Bakery Buffet in the Parish House offers cakes, pies, cookies, muffins, breads, jams and dessert sauces. This year, the bakery opens at 12:30 p.m., the same time as the lunch.
At the Children’s Fair held in the hiorse sheds, children can play games to win prizes, decorate cupcakes and find items to buy. Anyone can buy a ticket for a ride in a Model T. Tickets are 25 cents.
This event depends on roughly 100 volunteers to set up, sort, sell, park cars, and clean up. While First Church’s members and friends plan and organize the fair, two-thirds of the workers come from the wider community. Many local businesses and service groups contribute time, equipment, and money.
