The final presentation at the 76th annual Amos Fortune Forum 2023 summer speaker series will feature Jennifer Gruda, senior judicial assistant to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, Friday, Aug. 18, at 8 p.m. in the meetinghouse in Jaffrey Center.
In “A View From Behind the Bench.” Gruda will talk about her path from Jaffrey through the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and the U. S. Court of Appeals to her current position at the Supreme Court. She will explain how the federal judiciary works, from filing of a complaint in the District Court all the way to a decision from the Supreme Court. She will share a behind-the-scenes look at the process for nominating and confirming federal judges, including Supreme Court justices.
Gruda began working for Jackson in 2013, during her tenure on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, and she supported Jackson through the nomination and confirmation process for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and the Supreme Court. She and her family moved to Jaffrey in 1985, and she is a graduate of Conant High School. In 1998, she earned her bachelor’s degree in American studies from Brandeis University and her juris doctor degree in 2001 from Georgetown University Law Center.
The presentation is free. Space and seating are available on the meetinghouse common for attendees who would like to arrive early and bring a picnic. This space will be set up by 6:30 p.m.
