Do you know the location of the Town Pound? Ever visited the Fire Department?
A month-long scavenger hunt, presented collaboratively by the Historical Society of Temple, the Mansfield Library and the Temple Recreation Commission, is aimed at getting residents of all ages to explore the town’s public spaces and attend Temple events, learning something about the town in the process.
The hunt, called “All Together Now: Finding What Makes Temple an Amazing Community,” is suitable for adults, children or families.
Through July 31, community members are encouraged to explore Temple as they collect stamps and answer Temple trivia questions.
Scavenger hunt forms are available at the library, or can be printed from the town’s website, templenh.org. Forms must be returned to the Mansfield Library by Aug. 6, with at least one completed line, to be entered into a drawing for prizes donated by local businesses. The more items people check off, the more chances they have to win. Groups or teams are allowed and encouraged.
Residents can collect stamps at upcoming town events, including the library’s story time every Friday at 10:30 a.m., the library’s movie matinee night on July 10 at 1:30 p.m., Cruise Night on July 10 at 7 p.m. at the Town Hall and a performance by Flying High Dogs on July 11 at 6 p.m. at the Temple Ballfield on General Miller Highway.
Stamps can also be collected at any town municipal meeting at Town Hall, or by getting the signature of a “helper,” by finding someone who makes the town a good place to live.
There are also waterproof yogurt containers at local town-owned or common public places about town, each containing a stamp and ink pad. Collect stamps from the Temple Store, the Mansfield Library, Schoolhouse No. 6, the town office/fire station, the Town Pound, the White Ledges trail head, the Temple Town Forest, Sartell Farm, North Cemetery, Miller Cemetery, the Old Burying Ground, East Cemetery and the site of the town time capsule.
For assistance finding any of these locations, the Mansfield Library has copies of “A History of Temple, NH.”
In addition to collecting stamps, there are 10 trivia questions about the history of Temple.
