Firelight Theatre Workshop will present its annual pop-up event, “Tiny Stories,” by staging a walkabout theatrical experience in downtown Peterborough using miniature scenes written by the community from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 24.
Audience members can arrive at the Firelight studio and be given a surprise that will guide them around town to witness scenes inspired by Firelight’s 2023 season theme of “Reunion.” The event is free, and audiences should expect their self-guided tour to last about 45 minutes. A shuttle will be available for audience members who prefer not to walk.
To participate, audience members should plan to arrive at the Firelight Studio at 70 Main St, No. 204 in the Guernsey Building (entrance on the rear second floor parking lot) between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. June 24.
Firelight is in its sixth season with more than 16 productions behind them, including 10 written by the company. Audience members are close to the actio, and Firelight often makes site-specific work, choosing locations that fit the story’s environment.
Says Tiny Stories’ director and Firelight ensemble member JaziminaMacNeil, “We strive to bring our audiences right inside the story, so that instead of being merely passive observers, they become viscerally engaged creators of the shared moment that is theater. Audiences come to Firelight to think and feel deeply, and they leave changed.”
During the pandemic, the company shared stories via mail, radio, film, multimedia gallery and outdoor live performance. Now, Firelight is returning to in-person performances, and will celebrate the reunion of performer and audience with “Tiny Stories.”
Firelight is a 2022 Ewing Performing Arts Award winner. Following “Tiny Stories,” Firelight will continue its season of “Reunion” with the film “Dinner Time,” a fall play and the final two installments of its signature series, “We Were Friends.” To stay up-to-date with Firelight’s projects, join the newsletter mailing list at firelighttheatreworkshop.com/contact and follow Firelight on Facebook and Instagram @firelighttheatreworkshop.
