Electric Earth Concerts presents “Contrasts” Friday, June 23, at the First Church in Jaffrey, 14 Laban Ainsworth Way, at 7 p.m.

The concert includes Bartók’s “Contrasts,” written for jazz clarinetist Benny Goodman in 1938; George Crumb’s “Eleven Echoes of Autumn” (1966); and Undine Smith Moore’s “Afro-American Suite.” Performers are Benjamin Fingland on clarinet, Maianida Silva on violin, Emely Phelps on piano, Laura Gilbert on flute and Jonathan Bagg on viola.

“Contrasts” is a composition scored for clarinet-violin-piano trio by Hungarian composer BélaBartók. It is based on Hungarian and Romanian dance melodies.

Crumb has won a Grammy Award and the Pulitzer Prize. Many of his works include programmatic, symbolic, mystical and theatrical elements.

Moore, the “dean of Black women composers,” was an American composer and professor of music in the 20th century. Much of her work was inspired by Black spirituals and folk music.

General admission is $30, payable online or at the door, via cash or check. Students may attend for free. Weather permitting, people can sit outside and listen for free.
