The Peterborough Unitarian Universalist Congregation (PUUC) will hold a Litha or summer solstice celebration Thursday, June 22, at 7 p.m.

The festival of light will be held around a fire on the front lawn of the Unitarian Universalist meeting house at 25 Main St. Attendees should bring chairs.

The Litha celebration is dedicated to theย powers of the sun when the days are longest and the nights are shortest in the Northern Hemisphere. It honors one of Unitarian Universalismโ€™s Seven Principles, โ€œRespect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.โ€ This year, the official astrological summer solstice begins at 10:57 a.m. on June 21, but the sunrise and sunset are essentially the same for about a week before and a week after the official solstice.

This event is free, and all are welcome.
