Lily Mandel threw a five-inning perfect game, striking out 10, in the ConVal softball team’s 20-0 win over Lebanon Wednesday.

After a scoreless first inning, ConVal broke the game open in the second, scoring 13 runs on eight hits, four walks and three hit batters. The Cougars scored another seven runs in the fourth on three hits, four walks and a hit batter.

The game ended after five innings with a strikeout, a line drive to first caught by Olivia Riley and liner to Mandel on the mound to complete ConVal’s first perfect game in more than 10 years. Avery Moore was behind the plate for the Cougars.

Sam Henderson went 2-4 for ConVal with a single, double, walk, two runs and four RBI. Morgan Bemont went 3-5 with a pair of singles, a double, two runs and four RBI. Ashley Cronin and Riley each had a pair of singles, a pair of runs and two RBI.

Emma Cronin reached three times and scored three runs, and Moore hit a triple, scored three runs and had four RBI. 

Mandel followed up her perfect game with a five-inning no-hitter against Plymouth Friday, as the Cougars won 12-0 via the mercy rule.

Last night the CV softball team took the field against Plymouth. Lily Mandel was on the mound throwing to Avery Moore. Mandel threw a NO HITTER after 5 innings and the Cougars won their 2nd straight game by the mercy rule. 

Sam Henderson led off, going 3-4 with trhee singles and three runs scored Morgan Bemont went 3-4 with two runs and two RBI. Mandel hit cleanup, and was 2-2 with a pair of singles and a pair of sacrifice flies resulting in a pair of RBI. Hannah Beisang, Ashley Cronin and catcher Avery Moore each had a pair of singles, and Olivia Riley, Madi Hatt, OapleBarrick and Emma Cronin all added a hit, as well. Every player in the lineup had a hit, resulting in 18 hits on the day.

The Cougars are scheduled to travel to Pelham to face the Pythons on Tuesday April 25, with a noon start time. 

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Conant drops 5-4 match to Trinity

Conant girls’ tennis lost 5-4 against Trinity Wednesday at windy at Derryfield Park in Manchester.

Conant’s singles wins game from No. 1 Margaret Winiecki, 8-0, and No. 5 Nobley Walker, 9-8 (11-9 in the tiebreaker).

The No. 1 doubles team of Winiecki and Kelly Williams won 8-0, and the No. 3 team of Walker and Grace Lewis won their match 8-3. 

Winnacunnet sweeps ConVal

Winnacunnet brought an experienced team to Peterborough to face ConVal’s inexperienced squad Thursday, and it showed, as the visitors won 9-0.

Annabelle DeLisle at fourth singles and Abby Shumway at fifth singles turned in the best performances, losing 8-1 to Mackenzie O’Regan and Sydney Whalen, respectively. The doubles team of Ally Hodgen and DeLisle won two games against Winnacunnet’s second doubles team of Amelia Dumont and Grace Vanderels.

Emma Rodenheiser at first singles, Makenna Proctor at second singles, Hodgen at third singles, GesuSaidova at sixth singles all lost 8-0, as did the first doubles team of Rodenheiser and Proctor and Shumway and Savannah Bremer at third doubles.

ConVal’s next match is May 1 at Portsmouth High.

TRACK AND FIELD

ConVal athletes compete at Sanborn Invitational 

ConVal’s boys’ and girls’ track and field teams participated in the Sanborn Invitational in Kingston on Saturday, April 22. The girls finished in a tie for 10th  place of 21 teams competing, with 20 points. The boys finished 18th of 22 teams competing, with seven points. 

Junior Tasha MacNeil factored into all 20 of the girls’ team’s points. She placed second in the javelin with a throw of 106 feet, scoring eight points, and also finished second in the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.29, for another eight points. MacNeil, along with senior Sophie Hatmaker, junior Aida Davis and sophomore Eliza Bull, finished the 4×100-meter relay in 55.88 seconds, good for fourth place and four points. 

For the boys, sophomore Kendrick Edwards scored four points for his fourth-place finish in the long jump, with a distance of 19-feet, 2 1/2 inches. Sophomore William Simard placed fifth in the 1,600-meter run in 4:42.9, which earned two points. The 4×100-meter relay team of Edwards, juniors Anthony Cadwallader and Jack Harris and sophomore Elliot Featherstone earned one point for their sixth-place finish in 47.13 seconds.
