Peterborough Players will present a live simulcast of the Metropolitan Opera’s production of Richard Strauss’s “Der Rosenkavalier,” in a production that has been revived for the first time in several years Saturday, April 15, at noon.
Set during the waning days of the Hapsburg Empire, “Der Rosenkavalier” is a tale of love and intrigue, following the adventures of a trio of women: the Marschallin, who is having an affair with the young Count Octavian; the younger Sophie von Faninal, who is being forced into a marriage with a rich, older man; and the scheming Baron Ochs, who is determined to marry Sophie himself.
The Met’s production includes soprano Lise Davidsen as the aging Marschallin, soprano Erin Morely as Sophie and mezzo-soprano Samantha Hankey as Octavian, with bass Günther Groissböck as Baron Ochs.
“This is a production that will truly take your breath away,” stated Peter Gelb, the Met’s general manager. “With a cast of some of the world’s greatest singers and an extraordinary team of designers and directors, this is an event that you won’t want to miss.”
Patrons are invited to come early to the Players at 55 Hadley Road for Opera Bites provided by Sunflowers Catering.
