Peterborough Players, 55 Hadley Road in Peterborough, will simulcast The Metropolitan Opera’s production of Giuseppe Verdi’s final work for the stage, “Falstaff,” Saturday, April 1, at 12:30 p.m.

Directed by Robert Carsen, the cast includes Michael Volle in the title role of Sir John Falstaff, AilynPérez as Alice Ford and Marie-Nicole Lemieux as Mistress Quickly. The production also features sets and costumes by Paul Steinberg and Brigitte Reiffenstuel, respectively, and lighting design by Robert Carsen and Peter van Praet.

The comedy tells the story of Sir John Falstaff, a rotund and boisterous knight who embarks on a series of comical schemes to woo two wealthy married women, Alice Ford and Meg Page. His attempts are continually thwarted by their husbands and other townspeople, leading to misadventures, disguises and laughter. The “Falstaff” story is based on a combination of scenes from Shakespeare, primarily drawn from the comedy “The Merry Wives of Windsor.”

Patrons are invited to come early to the Players and for Opera Bites provided by Sunflowers Catering. The Wednesday before the show is the deadline to preorder a meal.
