On Monday, Feb. 27, at 2 p.m., on the first day of the Jaffrey-Rindge winter school vacation, Jaffrey Public Library, 38 Main St., will host thereminist C.G. Martiello.
The theremin is the only instrument in the world that is played without ever actually being touched. Since the turn of the 20th century, this device has been entertaining audiences around the world, from the concert hall to classic rock to the silver screen. The world’s oldest electronic instrument, the theremin produces ghostly and otherworldly sounds, with the musician never touching the device itself.
Martiello will introduce this instrument in a performance that is part history, part science, part concert. He will explore the story of its creation, how it works and how the theremin has come to help shape the face of modern sound.
A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation, where attendees can get a lesson.
This free family event is open to all ages. Registration is strongly encouraged, and caregiver attendance is required for children under age 10. Call the library at 603-532-7301.
