The Jaffrey-Rindge MLK Committee announces the award of a grant from the Putnam Foundation, a donor-advised fund of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, for $1,000 in support of its Martin Luther King Jr. Day commemoration.

Now in its ninth year, โ€œCelebrating Martin Luther King Jr.โ€ gathers people in remembrance and to reflect on the values he stood for and renew commitment to peace, communityย and social justice.ย  For 2023, the event will direct attention to Kingโ€™s exhortation, โ€œInjustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhereโ€ with a focus on environmental justice.ย 

Keynote speaker Aaron Mair, a prominent environmentalist and environmental justice activist, recent past president of the national Sierra Clubย and the clubโ€™s first African-American president, will present โ€œShades of justice: building a diverse and inclusive environmental movement.โ€ย  Performances byย Jaffrey-Rindge school choruses and a presentation by JRMS sixth-graders will also be featured.

โ€œCelebrating Martin Luther King Jr.โ€ takes place on Monday, Jan.ย 16, 2023, from 5 to 6 p.m., at The Park Theatre in Jaffrey, with a livestream option on parkyoutube.com.ย  The event is free and open to all and followed by a reception and exhibit.ย
