On Thursday, Nov. 17, from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. at the James A. Tuttle Library, 45 Main St. in Antrim, Antrim Eclectic Book Club readers will discuss Jodi Picoult’s “Leaving Time.”

Picoult is the author of 28 novels. In her fiction, she often focuses on internal family conflicts and has ignited controversies concerning abortion, assisted suicide, race relations, eugenics, LBGT rights and school shootings.

“Leaving Time” follows Jenna Metcalf, who at age 3 lost contact with her mother in the wake of a mysterious accident. Ten years later, she hires a psychic and a washed-up detective to locate her mother, who Jenna  believes is still alive.

Possible questions for discussion include how the novel’s characters deal with various losses, how the three contrasting characters of Jenna, Serenity and Virgil form an unorthodox “family” and how rational individuals can believe in ghosts or psychic readings.

The Antrim Eclectic Book Club meets  on the third Thursday each month from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. at James A Tuttle library. Free copies of books will be available for loan at the library. For information, send email to Steve Ullman at stephenhullman@gmail.
