For those of us who prefer moderation, value freedom, strive to strengthen, not weaken, democracy and are tired of attacks on our schools and increases to our tax burden, the elections on Nov. 8 are a good time to vote Democratic.
The last two years under Republican control have not been kind to democracy, and have pushed New Hampshire further toward the extremes. From school vouchers, to a “divisive concepts” law restricting free speech, to cutting education “adequacy” funding that eased the tax burden on rural towns, Republican control of the governor’s office, Executive Council, state Senate and House has been bad for New Hampshire.
Republicans have driven the sharp increase in property taxes. It is not just the big spending on vouchers and cuts to education aid that have increased property taxes under Republican control. Repeated cuts to the business profits tax while failing to restore state funding of pensions for municipal and school employees have left towns to foot the bill. If you don’t want our politics to get more divisive, and if you want to see property taxes reined in, this is a good year to vote Democratic.
These are some of the reasons I’m running for state representative in Jaffrey, Rindge and Dublin, along with Jeff Dickler, a great candidate. Dick Ames, an experienced, hard-working veteran of the House of Representatives, is running in Jaffrey and Dublin. Hannah Bissex, rooted for Rindge and committed to community, is running in Rindge. If you want to restore balance to New Hampshire politics, we are the candidates who can help get us there. Please come out and vote for us and for all of the Democratic candidates Nov. 8.
