The Grand Monadnock Rotary Club is sponsoring its fourth annual Community Recovery Fair and Community Walk for Recovery Sunday, Oct. 16, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Putnam Park, Peterborough.
The walk is intended to destigmatize the ways communities think about substance use disorder, viewing it as a disease and not a criminal justice problem. Rotary wants the public to know that recovery is possible, and substance abuse disorder can be treated with care and support.
The event includes a three-mile Community Walk for Recovery at 2 p.m. to show community support for those in recovery. Leading agencies on the front lines of prevention, treatment and recovery will be on hand from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. to meet the public, answer questions about recovery support in the Monadnock region and offer advice for appropriate levels of service.
Three keynotes at 1 p.m. will explore how to approach those with substance-use problems in supportive ways that are sensitive to their needs. They will focus attention on working with students and teens, approaching family, friends and those people care about and engaging people in the workplace to stimulate them to consider recovery options and support them through the process.
