On Monday, the Peterborough Planning Board and members of the public took a tour of a proposed 34-unit development on Union Street, which is expected to include workforce housing units.

Applicant Sadie Halliday of Halliday Properties appeared before the board in August for a preliminary consultation on the project, which would be a multifamily development with associated parking on 241 Union St. in the West Peterborough district. The property currently has a house and attached barn, along with an outbuilding.

The project proposes a single driveway, moved from the current driveway location to the back of the property. Six units would qualify as workforce housing, which is defined by the state as being affordable to a household with the median income for a four-person household in the metropolitan area or county. In Hillsborough County, the estimated affordable purchase price for workforce housing is $361,662 for a family of four, and the maximum rent is $1,480 per month for a family of three.

Chris Guida of Fieldstone Land Consultants led the walkthrough. Guida said that due to setback requirements, the tree buffer currently in place between 241 Union St. and the neighbors on either side will remain in place, as will trees between Union Street and the development.

Runoff from the property will be caught in a drainage system, and absorbed into the groundwater, rather than washing into the road.

The Planning Board will continue to review the site plan for the project during its upcoming scheduled meeting Oct. 12 at 6:30 p.m., in the Peterborough Town House.
