We have a wonderful example of self-delusion in the Ledger-Transcript’s Aug. 25 account of the Marsh dispute in Temple (“Legal dispute on Marsh property continues”). This dispute is going to court because the Marshes do not recognize that they have an illegal junkyard, illegal by both state and town law.

Why does it matter? They do not have a right to destroy the property values of their neighbors, nor to jeopardize the important aquifer that serves the nearby wells and even threatens the Town of Wilton. They can talk all they want about how much they love their junk and value their home, but the truth is that they are in violation of the law and a threat to their neighbors and our town.

The Temple Zoning Board ruled on the case in 2018, denying the Marsh request for a special exception.  The Marsh response: “The Temple ZBA was made up almost entirely of attorneys and they started making stuff up.” Yes, self-delusion. For them the rule of law does not exist, only their own personal wishes.

It is a waste of time to respond to the many misstatements in the article. Their obvious desire for sympathy cannot be met without truth. They do have several examples of historic machines, but they also have dozens upon dozens of decaying hulks and metal scraps that demonstrate nothing.
